Friday, U.S. and world health and government officials have re-labeled the new influenza virus strain Type A H1N1, or a variation on that theme. Consumers and the general media will likely be slower to respond. Meanwhile, to drive home the point that U.S. pork is safe to eat, the National Pork Board has approved funding for a national media advertising program. The advertising, which should begin appearing next week, will be targeted to major daily newspapers and to a variety of Internet-based media. Further, NPB's daily consumer tracking research shows that more than eight of every 10 consumers continue to believe pork is safe to eat. Full story.
