EPA: Ethanol Blend Decision May be Delayed
By Pork news source  |  Saturday, November 14, 2009

The Environmental Protection Agency may not meet the Dec. 1 deadline to reach a decision regarding raising the ethanol blend rate. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson made the statement to Reuters this week.

U.S. gasoline is now approved to contain up to 10 percent of ethanol, which in the United States is made mostly from corn. Ethanol manufacturers have requested that the accepted blend rate for ethanol in gasoline be raised from 10 percent to 15 percent.

Jackson said the agency may have to work past the Dec. 1 deadline because it is still reviewing test results on how the higher blend rate would affect engines "across the board," — including cars, trucks, snow mobiles, motor boats and lawnmowers.
