Minnesota Ag Commissioner Backs NAIS (audio)
AgriTalk  |  Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Gene Hugoson is encouraging the USDA to move ahead with a National Animal Identification System. “We’re going to have to have traceback capability so we can pinpoint any problems very quickly,” Hugoson says. “I think the day is coming when the food supply chain will demand it.”

Hugoson believes the risk is too high to delay the identification program. He believes that state involvement may help further the animal identification program and reduce concerns felt by many who oppose the system.
